Happy Birthday Dad!

Dear Dad,

You probably don’t remember this, but when I was a little girl (probably 7 or 8 years old) my birthday was nearing, so one evening when you came home from work you told me that we were going to Toys R Us where I could pick out any toy in the store for my birthday.

The night we went, I remember it was dark and snowing really hard as we drove to Toys R Us. I can’t tell you how excited I was when we stepped into that huge toy store – just me and my dad! I knew exactly what I wanted as we walked straight to the rows and rows of Barbie and Cabbage Patch dolls. And there she was – the Cabbage Patch doll I had seen on TV commercials, the doll with brown wiry hair that came with a plastic hair curling iron and crimper!

I felt SO special that night, walking with my new doll in one hand and my daddy’s hand in the other. That was, and remains, my best birthday ever.

On your birthday, dad, I don’t know what to get you that would equal that special sweet birthday memory you gave me, and you probably never knew just how much it meant. But I want you to know that it did mean a lot - that after a busy day at work with 5 other kids in tow, you’d take the time to show me individually just how much you cared.

That’s the kind of dad you are – you have always taken the time to grow a relationship with EACH of us kids, and I’ve seen time and time again how you go out of your way for each of us.

I love you SO much, Dad. Happy Birthday!
